My family is a matriarchy. We walk around naked. We openly speak about sex. We do not hide menstruation. My home is a home that embraces its womanhood. My father’s unexpected death has monumentally changed our environment. My mother, sister, and I have found a new dynamic with one another; we find comfort in the strong feminine bonds that form our family. Our lives and experiences shape the work, and the work expresses the aspects of femininity that our society represses.
Mentor: Phil Taylor, Curatorial Assistant, The Museum of Modern Art
Working with Phil Taylor on this body of work has been deeply beneficial to my practice as an artist. Bringing in his experience as a Curatorial Assistant in the Photography Department at the Museum of Modern Art, Mr. Taylor has shown me new ways of connecting images to one another.
