I photograph out of a strong longing and desire to reunite with my homeland. I explore the landscape and how the body fits in nature. The living biomorphic forms are integrated within the environment and its space and how the two feed back to each other in terms of relations and exclusions. Stories that speak of personal myths/histories are closely related to the emblematic landscape of the Cyclades. I am interested in the prehistoric figures of the Cycladic Idols, being deeply moved by their forms. Performative actions emphasize my personal history, sexual-identity, and the documentation of the transcendence of adapted cultures I move through. I explore the sense of belonging to both physical space and history by connecting untapped areas of unmediated landscape to the body, the body being a site of rituals and a temporary mediator to make a symbolic link to the topos.
Mentor: Janice Guy, Gallerist, Photographer
The time with my mentor Janice Guy was a valuable experience, she was able to share her knowledge and years of experience in the art world, and direct my gaze to inspiring references while also creating a space for my own thoughts and creative process.
