School of Visual Arts presents “non-location specific,” an exhibition of works by MFA Art Practice students. Curated by program faculty member and Director of Operations Jacquelyn Strycker, the exhibition will be on view from Thursday, July 11, through Wednesday, July 31, at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, 133/141 West 21st Street, New York City.

In quantum physics, nonlocality describes an object's ability to know about another object's state, even when light years apart. Seemingly separate parts of the universe are actually intimately and immediately connected.

“non-location specific” includes work from 15 artists who span four generations and three continents. Superficially unrelated, but in actuality, deeply engaged with one another, this cohort has spent the past nine months gathering in an online forum, sitting in front of computers and mobile devices in various cities and conversing asynchronously. Their works share common themes, including ecological concerns, technological wariness and a desire for social justice. By excluding any notion of a particular location, division, separation or border, they’ve found a way to express in universal terms.

Participating artists are Colleen Comer, Andrew Cziraki, Irina Jibert, Min Kim, Emily Klass, Zhuoyuan Li, Jingjing Lin, Allison O’Connor, Barbara Owen, Erin Peisert, Roxy Savage, Patricia Tewes, Denise Thompson, Heather Williams and Tianran Wu.
