MFA Computer Art Thesis Presentations

Graduatuing MFA Computer Art students present their theses. For the presentation schedule, call 212.592.2778 or visit mfaca.sva.edu.

Tuesday evening presentations highlight fine art and motion graphics. Wednesday night features 3D animation. Both will stream live at new.livestream.com/MFAComputerArt/Thesis2014.

Presentations showcase graduates' unique approaches to the themes and modes of creative self-expression. Over 50 thesis projects incorporate a variety of media, materials and cutting edge technologies that address a range of topics, including a story of a rock band, with four puppet characters animated in stop motion, by Xiaoxiao Tang; a mixed-media installation that combines video projection mapping and sculpture by digital fine artist Harsha Biswajit; and a short story about two dolls coming to life at night in a toy shop, by 3D animator Chun Wei Kuo. Presenting artists make use of programming languages, digital fabrication methods, artificial intelligence, computer vision and human-computer interaction, and traditional art production methods to realize their creations. Linear video works include single- and multi-channel installations exploring both narrative and abstract expression through 3D animation, motion graphics and traditional animation. "We place a strong emphasis on creativity and personal vision," department chair Bruce Wands says, "This is essential in the development of an artist. As a multidisciplinary graduate department, our students have a broad palette of courses and a state-of-the-art facility within which any idea in the digital and contemporary art realm can be realized."
