Return of the Golden Beacon is an interactive VR narrative that transports you to a fantasy setting, adrift at sea in uncharted waters. Landing on an undiscovered island, a crew of explorers had attempted to subjugate its native people. Defeated and driven off, the survivors face a reckoning. Immersed amongst the crew, your movement is on a set track; reminiscent of a theme park thrill ride. To gain more insight into the series of events that led to their current circumstances, you are able to interact with the survivors as well as objects around the ship.
For as long as I remember, I’ve had a fascination with maps. Even the simplest of maps contain entire worlds. Within these worlds are stories waiting to be told.
My creative approach typically starts with a map. Before I craft a story, I must understand the world where it’s set. The landscape, the local flora and fauna, the resources within it, the people living there; these aspects often influence events that unfold within them. When these details have been conceived, they introduce a deeper level of immersion and understanding.
I employ a wide range of media in my work such as 2D animation, installations, virtual reality, and real-time game engines. By seamlessly weaving technology and art, I bring my worlds to life.
While these worlds are imaginary, I imbue within them elements of the real world; the good and the bad, embracing the history of science fiction and fantasy as more accessible means for social commentary.
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
-Arthur C. Clarke
