School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “change of he(art),” an exhibition of select thesis projects by more than 20 students from the MFA Computer Arts class of 2023, curated by department advisor and faculty Lotte Marie Allen and MoMA assistant exhibition designer LJ McNerney. The exhibition will be on view from Thursday, June 1 through Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the SVA Chelsea Gallery at 601 W 26th St, New York, NY.

change of he(art)” explores the many connections between bodies, minds, hearts and relationships through interactive installations, animations, prints, games, tattoos and more. Jintong (Sylvie) Yang’s Chrysalis traces three generations of her maternal family history in a piece that explores her relationship with and memories of her mother and grandmother in an interactive oval structure filled with colors, moving images and shapes. Kristie Kish augments her thesis film Lonely Island with one of her main characters, an interactive floating crab searching for the proverbial inner ocean. Mori Ortiz presents a giant hand in sculpture form from his film On Skyros, a multimedia piece exploring trans identity through a loose prism of Greek mythology.

The MFA Computer Arts program at SVA emphasizes creative experimentation and a multidisciplinary approach to making art with computers and emerging technologies. Dedicated to producing digital artists of the highest caliber, the department guides each student in the development of a personal artistic style in a course of study that is individually tailored to meet their needs. Students come from around the world to study in this two-year degree program, which has distinguished itself with nine Student Academy Awards. For more information, visit mfaca.sva.edu.
