María Durán Sampedro

María Durán Sampedro creates work as a form visibility, transparency and catharsis for acts of child abuse she had experienced. By creating defiant sculptural figures, in the form of a prepubescent girl, sometimes wielding a knife. Through variously-sized molds these figures, made from polymer clay and other resins and wax, are found either in a group as legion, or as larger busts or heads half-descending into the ground. Paintings and collages also explore nuanced imagery around violence against children.
