School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents the MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Thesis Exhibition 2024, an exhibition of works by 13 graduates of the class of 2024, curated by Nora Khan. The exhibition will be on view Thursday, June 27, through Saturday, July 13, at the SVA Chelsea Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor, New York City.

In a statement about the exhibition, department chair Charles Traub says, “This year, a remarkably diverse group of graduates are presenting works in the lens and screen arts that tell stories as diverse as they are. And, to no surprise, they are exploring new and unique applications that the technology of the camera has to offer. Perhaps no other visual medium is comparable to what the lens can do to unveil, for both the maker and the viewer, insight into the details of our ever-changing reality. Unlike those graduates of the last several years, this year’s graduates were thus free of COVID-19 restraints, so they looked at the environments that were rebuilding around them. These environments include connecting with communities and individuals as well as uncovering their deep relationships to their own personal spaces, both real and imagined.

It is clear that there is a consensus in the photographs, installations and moving images involved in this exhibition that this generation wants to record their release from isolation. These works are novel maps for new areas of expressions.”

Artists featured in this exhibition are Emma Colton, Gabriela de Cos, Yusheng Jiang, Wensha Li, Yizhuo Lu, Bing Lu, Joseph O'Malley, Chloe Pierson, Rahul Rekapalli, Yixin Xiao, Yizhen Zhang, Wenhe Zhao and Xunzhen Zhu.

The SVA Chelsea Gallery is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:00am to 6:00pm, Mondays from 10:00am to 5:00pm by appointment, and closed on Sundays. It is fully accessible by wheelchair.
