School of Visual Arts presents “Murmurs from the Planet Earth,” an exhibition of works by SVA students selected by a jury of their peers. Organized by SVA Galleries, “Murmurs from the Planet Earth,” is on view Friday, July 14, through Tuesday, August 8, at the SVA Chelsea Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, New York City.

The inspiration for this exhibition is Carl Sagan’s Murmurs of Earth: The Voyager Interstellar Record, a book about the famous Voyager Golden Records, which contain photographs, music and sounds from Earth intended as a message to possible extraterrestrial civilizations. The works on view offer both abstract and literal representations of the natural world, exploring earthly habitats through such varied approaches as drawing, painting, photography, video and installation.

Participating artists include Alex Frankel, Tyler Gumb, Kelsey Haight , Jingmei Han, Alex Hovet, Amsha Kalra, Ryan Kim, YuFei Liang, Julianne Nash, Eun Hwa Oh, Azucena Roma, Kinjal Shah, Janel Wong and Yue Yuan.

Juried exhibitions are a way for SVA’s student body to recognize the achievements of their classmates. Artists are selected from a large pool of applicants to the annual SVA Galleries call for entries, whose submissions undergo a rigorous examination of presented materials, including documentation of work and artist statements.
