My Body in this Space

SVA Flatiron Project Space
133/141 West 21st Street, ground floor, New York, NY 10011BFA Visual & Critical Studies presents “My Body in this Space,” an exhibition of performances curated by student Lucy RB Gaehring and BFA Fine Arts faculty member Lizzie Scott. The series will feature different performances each night from 6:00 – 9:00pm on Wednesday, April 24; Thursday, April 25; and Friday, April 26, in the SVA Flatiron Project Space at 133 West 21 Street.
“My Body in this Space” presents 13 performances over three evenings, showcasing a diverse range of performance art by SVA students and alumni. What unites all of these works is a commitment to performance as a visual art form, and an interest in using the artist’s body as a starting place for creating an intimate experience with the audience. Embodying themes of identity, community, autonomy, dissolution, failure and joy, the artists in “My Body in this Space” draw upon painting, sculpture, music, food, technology, textiles and movement to create distinct arguments for human connection in real space and real time. This is work that you cannot experience in documentation or on social media. You just have to be there.
The artists featured in this exhibition include Chris Cortez, Tomás Dominguez, Nanxi Gong, Skylar Gong, Yufei Li, Ravn Naa, Paola Pomarico, Furusho (Anchovy) von Puttkammer, Mars Rodriguez, Kun Kyung Sok, Zelle Westfall, Yuhan Zeng and Yunxin Zhu (Liang Jing).
Each evening of the series features a different group of artists, whose performances complement each other to create a coherent event. More details on the performance schedule can be found below.
The Flatiron Project Space, created and founded by the BFA Visual & Critical Studies department, is located on the ground floor of 133 West 21 Street.
