Online Winter Drawing Marathon 2023
This complementary drawing marathon session offered by SVA Continuing Education and BFA Visual & Critical Studies encourages participants to work in a free and expressive manner.
Led by Visual Artist and SVA faculty member Peter Hristoff (BFA 1981 Fine Arts), the session combines aspects of the different types of courses that Hristoff teaches, including drawing from imagination (Inventory Drawing), life drawing (The Vigorous Figure) and drawing from art history (Drawing the Met Collection).
This is a fast-paced session of nonstop, one-minute drawings using prompts, figure models and museum images to inspire the participants to work loosely and fearlessly. The emphasis is on line and expressive drawing. This session requires an open mind and a willingness to let go. Open to all levels of drawing experience.
Required supplies:
- loose sheets of various types of paper (approximately 100 sheets); a package of 8.5" x 11" or 11" x 17" heavy-weight, cotton photocopy or laser paper; a sketch pad (if working with dry mediums); or rice paper scrolls for those working in ink
- any drawing media that creates a smooth, soft line. Recommended: 4, 5 or 6B pencils; soft Blackwing pencils; Ebony pencils; Lyra brand water-soluble graphite crayon in 6 or 9B; brush and ink.
