Talk
Practice Lecture Series: Andrea Fraser
MFA Art Practice presents a talk by Andrea Fraser.
Andrea Fraser is a performance and video artist known for her institutional critique in works such as "Official Welcome" (2001), in which she delivered a monologue satirizing the bombastic language used when presenting art exhibitions and prizes, or the controversial "Untitled" (2003), a videotaped encounter in which a collector paid $20,000 in exchange for sex with the artist, posing the question of whether art is prostitution. Fraser was a founding member of the feminist performance group, The V-Girls (1986 – 1996); the project-based artist initiative Parasite (1997 – 1998); and the cooperative art gallery Orchard (2005 – 2008). Her essays have appeared in several publications including Art in America, October, Artforum, Texte zer Kunst and Grey Room.
