Chie Fueki (b. 1973) lives and works in Beacon, New York. Fueki was born in Yokohama, Japan, and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. She earned her MFA at Yale University and her BFA at The Ringling College of Art and Design. She is a recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (2022) and an inaugural 2021 recipient of the Joan Mitchell Fellowship. She also received the Purchase Prize (2021, 2004) and Rosenthal Family Foundation Award (2004) from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Recent solo exhibitions include: DC Moore Gallery, New York (2022); Shoshana Wayne Gallery, Los Angeles (2005, 2008, 2013, 2022/forthcoming); Mother Gallery, Beacon, New York (2020); Mary Boone Gallery, New York (2006, 2011); Bill Maynes Gallery, New York (2002, 2003); Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando, Florida (2014).
Fueki’s work was recently included in group exhibitions at Hirschl & Adler Galleries, Inman Gallery, Houston, TX; Miles McEnery Gallery, New York; Essex Flowers, New York; The ReInstitue, Millerton, New York; Fredricks Freiser Gallery, New York; Geoffrey Young Gallery in Great Barrington, Massachusetts; Susan Inglett Gallery, New York; Morgan Lehman Gallery, New York; Jeff Bailey Gallery, Hudson, New York; LABspace, Hillsdale, New York; and Greater New York at PS1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City, New York. She has public artwork at PS 92Q, Queens, New York, and HHS Lerner Children Pavilion, New York. Her work is included in permanent collections of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Fort Worth, Texas; Orlando Museum of Art, Orlando, Florida; San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, California; the Hirshhorn Museum, Washington, D.C.; and the Pizzuti Collection at Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus, Ohio.
