This event combines three approaches to drawing in an intense three-hour session. Using wet and dry mediums with references from life, art history and imagination, participants will create over 100 drawings in one evening. Come fill a sketchbook, flex your mind and activate your drawing muscles. Open to all levels, from fearless beginner to professional artist.

Suggested supplies:

Ink
Bamboo or watercolor brushes
Prismacolor brand “Ebony” pencils or any soft, dark graphite pencils (and a pencil sharpener)
Color medium of your choice to add color to during certain exercises (colored pencils, pastels, ink or paint)
Approximately 100 sheets of paper, any size you are comfortable with (I recommended decent weight photocopy paper with 20% rag content; Canson brand XL mixed media or watercolor paper; or any paper that takes both wet and dry mediums well)
Plus any other drawing tools (markers, gel pens, crayons, etc.)

This drawing session is led by visual artist and SVA faculty member Peter Hristoff (BFA 1981 Fine Arts) and is presented by SVA Continuing Education and BFA Visual & Critical Studies.

Peter Hristoff is a visual artist working in painting, printmaking, drawing and rug making. Recent exhibition venues have included CAM Gallery Istanbul, MoMA, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Duke House NYU, The Hammond Museum, Artists Equity Gallery and The Flatiron Project Space of SVA. Hristoff was selected as the first visual artist-in-residence at The Met in 2015/16, with his tenure culminating in a collaborative project with the museum’s Education Department and weavers in Aegean Turkey. Hristoff is a BFA faculty member at his alma mater, the School of Visual Arts, NY.
