Pre-College Housing Agreement
ALL Students and Parent(s)/(Guardian(s) Must Read, Sign and Return Form
Residence Hall Terms of Occupancy
- Tampering with fire extinguishers, alarms, sprinkler systems, smoke detectors, emergency exits or other safety equipment.
- Possession and/or use of extension cords to power multiple appliances (as opposed to power strips, which are permitted).
- Possession and/or use of flammable decorations, appliances or other property that may be deemed a fire hazard, including but not limited to candles, incense and evergreens.
- Possession and/or use of cooking and other household appliances, including, but not limited to heating coils, hot plates, microwave ovens, open-faced electrical appliances, space heaters and toaster ovens.
- Possession and/or use of spray paint, spray adhesive and spray glue.
- Possession of unauthorized furniture.
- Possession of weapons, including, but not limited to self-defense spray devises, knives, mace, explosives, fireworks, firearms or ammunition.
- Possession or storage of a gas engine or any form of combustible fuel in the residence halls.
- Possession or use of a hoverboard or similar self-balancing scooter.
- Keeping pets or animals in any residence hall.
- Possession, distribution or being under the influence of alcohol, narcotics and other controlled substances including empty containers on College grounds is forbidden and will be grounds for dismissal from the Pre-College Program.
- Possession, use or distribution of an illegal or controlled substance and/or related paraphernalia.
- Smoking in the residence halls, or possession of smoking devices such as bongs and hookahs.
- Throwing or allowing to fall from residence hall windows, doors, terraces, ledges, roofs or other areas, any object or substance.
- Unauthorized solicitation or recruitment of any kind.
- Failure to maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene or room cleanliness to the extent that such failure interferes with the general comfort, safety, security, health or welfare of a member of the residence hall community.
- Disorderly, disruptive or aggressive behavior that interferes with the general comfort, safety, security, health or welfare of a member of the residence hall community or the regular operation of the College.
- Any harassment or abusive behavior toward another individual.
- Physical violence, actual or threatened, against any individual or group of persons.
- Engaging in, or threatening to engage in, any behavior that endangers the health or safety of another person, property or oneself.
- Unauthorized access to or use of restricted areas in or about a residence hall, including but not limited to vacant rooms, roofs, ledges, terraces, basements, storage areas or emergency exits.
- Violation of the SVA Pre-College Program Guest Policy. Resident students are not permitted to have or hosts any guests in the residence halls at any time. Pre-College non-residential students, who are participating in the program, are not allowed to enter the residence halls as guests.
- Participating in or contributing to the unauthorized entry of another individual, including fraudulent misrepresentation, using false identification, etc., into any part of an SVA residence hall.
- Theft, vandalism or damage to another resident’s property or SVA property.
- Excessive noise as defined by any New York City ordinance or a residence hall policy on noise.
- Failure to present a valid ID card or properly identify oneself when entering a residence hall or when requested to do so by an authorized SVA staff member.
- Unauthorized possession, use or duplication of a residence hall room key.
- Unauthorized residence hall room change or room occupancy violation.
- Installing an unauthorized lock on a bedroom, bathroom or suite door.
- Failure to lock room doors.
- Exhibiting or affixing any unauthorized sign, advertisement, notice or other lettering, flags or banners that are inscribed, painted or affixed to any part of the inside or outside of a residence building (other than items affixed entirely inside a resident’s room in a non-damaging manner).
- Violation of the Summer Pre-College Code of Conduct Agreement.
- Failure to comply with a request from an SVA staff member.
- Failure to successfully complete the terms of a judicial sanction.
- Violation of the SVA Pre-College Program housing curfew and curfew sign-in guidelines. Curfew is enforced Sunday through Thursday from 10pm–7am and Friday and Saturday from 11pm-7am. Resident Students must sign-in nightly with their designated Resident Assistant.
- Failure to comply with SVA Pre-College Program quiet hour policies (Quiet hours in the SVA residence halls are 10pm-8am daily. Volume and disruptions to the shared living space should be kept to a minimum volume.) Lights out each night is at 12am midnight.
- The College shall be authorized at any time to enter the assigned room for health and safety inspections, inventory, maintenance repairs or to monitor compliance with the College’s rules and regulations.
- Engaging in sexual behavior is prohibited and is grounds for dismissal from the Pre-College Program.
- The School of Visual Arts reserves the right to immediately dismiss a student for dangerous or disruptive behavior in the classroom or on sponsored activities, or intimidation of any kind, or for damage to the premises.
- Any form of intimidation or bullying is prohibited and is grounds for dismissal
- Violation of Pre-College Code of Conduct and/or the Pre-College Housing Agreement are grounds for dismissal from the residence halls and the SVA Pre-College Program.
- Students dismissed from the residence halls for violations will forfeit fees associated with the program.
Liability
- Students who reside in the SVA residence halls are financially responsible for any damage caused and will be billed for the cost of repairs.
- Students who reside in the SVA residence halls are financially responsible for any lost keys and may be charged a $50-$125 key replacement fee.
- Students who reside in the SVA residence halls are responsible for the cleanliness of their rooms. Any damage above normal wear and tear will result in a cleaning fee upon check-out.
- The School of Visual Arts shall not be liable for loss or damage to personal property including artwork.
Curfew
All residential students must be checked into their assigned room each night, by 10pm Sunday-Thursday, and by 11pm on Friday and Saturday. The Pre-College Program Resident Assistant will conduct a nightly check-in to confirm students are in their assigned room at the appropriate time. If a student is late for curfew, their parent/guardian will be notified by Pre-College staff. Any student found in violation of the curfew policy will be subject to dismissal from the residence halls and will forfeit their enrollment to the Pre-College Program.
I have read the above, understand and agree to abide by all the provisions therein. Also, I understand that the premises are residence halls of School of Visual Arts and are to be used only by duly registered students of the college and only while a student of the Pre-College Program at School of Visual Arts. I understand and agree that I must vacate the premises immediately upon the termination of my student status. Furthermore, I understand that I must conform and adhere to the policies of the residence hall and that I am financially responsible for any willful damage to the room I have been assigned for the duration of the program.
Parent(s)/Guardian(s) of a student under the age of 18, assume legal and financial responsibility for the terms of this contract. In the event a student is dismissed from the program, the student must vacate the premises within 24 hours of receipt of a dismissal letter.
