MPS Branding Chair Debbie Millman designed an SVA T-shirt for this year’s Pride march. Millman writes about this year’s design and her personal connection to Pride: “LGBTQ+ pride is something I always felt but until I turned 50 and ‘came out’ I had never publicly expressed. The fear that had held me back from doing so was alleviated when I began to share my true self. I think that feeling proud of who you are is one of the most significant human experiences and sharing that sense of pride with the LGBTQ+ community and beyond is one of the great joys of my life. My artwork for this year’s SVA Pride T-shirt includes the rainbow spectrum we've come to understand as part of the Pride identity, but it is articulated in a grid pattern to signify the various experiences people have in our community and the nonlinear, nonbinary expression of those identities. It is embedded in the School of Visual Arts identity as a way of sharing how I've always felt at the College sharing my identity: always proud.” Happy Pride Month!
