Mixed-gender roommates and/or suitemates are permitted. However, we will not place mixed-gendered roommates in an apartment with other roommates/suitemates that are not acquainted with you and your roommate. My internship goes later than my contract date. Can I extend my stay?
SVA cannot extend your stay beyond your contract date. We have to prepare our buildings for incoming staff and students for the fall semester. If you email the Summer Housing Office, summerhousing@sva.edu, we can provide you with a list of short-term housing options that may be able to accommodate you for the additional time that you need.
Can I register for summer housing and apply for an additional week's stay in the Ludlow Residence for just the last or first week?
You can not register for one week of housing and move over from one residence hall to another. If you want to secure your stay through this date, you should register for the appropriate option to meet your needs.
I've previously stayed in an SVA residence hall that I no longer see listed. Could I reserve a space there?
The Tenth Street Residence and George Washington Residences are no longer an option for summer intern housing at the School of Visual Arts (SVA).
I want a single room for myself, where do you recommend?
The Ludlow Residence Hall has the greatest number of single-room accommodations.
The Gramercy Residence Hall offers studio apartments as single occupancy (for one person only). However, the Gramercy Residence Hall has very limited numbers of these apartment types.
The 24ST Residence also offers single-room options (for one person only). However, the 24th Street Residence Hall has very limited numbers of these apartment types.
How do I sign in an overnight guest?
Signing in an overnight guest is easy. The resident fills out an Overnight Guest Form and has their roommate (if applicable) sign it too. The Overnight Guest Form needs to be submitted to the security desk before or by 11 pm of the night your guest is staying. Your guest does not need to be present when you turn in the Overnight Guest Form to security. You can give security the Overnight Guest Form anytime before 11 pm–on your way to work that morning, the day before, or whatever time is convenient for you before 11 pm.
If your guest is staying more than three consecutive nights, then the Residence Hall Director needs to sign it for approval. You can get the Residence Hall Director to sign off on approval by submitting it to our office at least two business days in advance of your guest's arrival. The Residence Hall Director will either approve it and leave the form with security, or deny it and call to discuss it further with you.
Does SVA provide gym facilities?
The SVA 24th Street Residence does have a fitness center and yoga room. These amenities are only available to interns who register for housing at this facility.
However, there are numerous gyms close by that generally offer short-term memberships for the summer for occupants in our other summer housing options. Below is a list of gyms that are close to the residence halls. SVA does not endorse nor is affiliated with any of the following gym facilities.
Gramercy Residence Hall
Ludlow Residence Hall
Does SVA offer a meal plan to summer residents?
SVA does not offer a meal plan for summer residents. All of our residence halls are in great neighborhoods for dining out and are close to multiple grocery stores. All of our residence halls provide kitchens.
Even though I'm of age, am I not allowed to have alcohol in the residence hall?
That is correct. SVA is a dry campus and alcohol is not allowed in the residence halls. Summer occupants are held to the conduct standard of their housing agreement. SVA reserves the right to report judicial matters to a student's home college at our College's discretion.

Registration
When attempting to register and pay, why do I get the message "Your payment has been canceled."
This usually means that your credit card has been declined. This normally occurs because your financial institution, who issued your credit card, put a hold on payment because it exceeds your daily limit or it is flagged as "unusual activity" on the account.
You will need to contact your financial institution and speak with them directly. You can request that your limit be raised or notify them officially of your purchase to the School of Visual Arts for "x" amount of dollars. This usually clears the matter. After you have resolved the issue, you can attempt to register online again.
Am I supposed to receive a confirmation when I register?
When you register online, you will usually receive an immediate confirmation of payment. You should expect to receive a preliminary email confirmation of your registration from the summerhousing@sva.edu address within three to five business days. A final confirmation, including your housing assignment and check-in instructions, will be sent to you via email before or by the second week of May.

Check-In & Check-Out
How do I check in? Where do I go? And what time can I start to move in?
We try to make move-in as easy as possible! You'll go to your assigned building, and notify Security that you are there to check-in.
Residents can move into the residence halls 24-hours a day, starting at 9 am on their move-in date. You will receive more detailed move-in information via email, along with a building FAQ, with your room assignment in early May.
If you arrive at a time when a staff member is not available to complete your check-in paperwork with you, Security will give you access to your room, and you will be able to complete your check-in paperwork the next day.
I can't move in on my start date. May I have someone pick up my keys for me and/or leave my belongings in my room?
Summer residents do not need to move in on their actual start date. They can move in starting on their assigned move-in day, or any day after that, up until the last day of your contract date.
For security purposes, we cannot provide access to anyone but the resident who registered the room. Room keys will be issued only to the assigned resident. Belongings may not be dropped off or shipped prior to the resident checking into the building.
Can I ship my belongings prior to my arrival?
Due to the limited storage space for packages and the volume of residents moving in, we cannot accept packages for residents who have not checked into their rooms. Please do not send packages prior to your arrival, as they will be returned to sender.
After you have checked into the residence hall, Security will accept packages on your behalf and store them at the Security desk until you come to retrieve them.
What time do I have to check out on my final check-out date?
You will need to be checked out by 12 pm on the date of the end of your summer contract. Your Residence Hall Director will email you detailed check-out information a couple of weeks prior to check out and/or post signage in your residence hall. Check-out protocol will also be listed in your building handbook, which you will receive with your final confirmation and housing assignment in early May.

General
When can I apply for summer housing?
The summer housing application will be available in March. All current residential students will receive an email at their SVA email address about the opening of the summer housing application around the third week of March.
I won't be here for the summer, but can I leave my stuff in my room without applying for summer?
No, only students who have applied for summer housing can have access to the premises and their room. If you do not apply for summer housing, you'll need to move out by your designated checkout date, May 5, 2020 for non-graduating residents and May 15, 2020 for graduating seniors.
What is the cancellation policy for SVA students for summer housing?
For SVA students, all cancellations must be submitted via email from the student's SVA email address to summerhousing@sva.edu no later than April 24, 2020 by 12pm. After the cancellation deadline, individuals who have applied for summer housing are responsible for the full cost of the summer housing session.
I only need to stay in housing for part of the summer? Can I just be charged for the time I need to stay?
The summer contract is for the full-term, so your account is charged for the full cost of the summer housing term.
My graduate academic program extends past May 5, 2020? Can I stay in housing until the end of my program?
Students in SVA programs, who have housing needs beyond the end of the academic year housing contract of May 5, 2020 need to apply for SVA summer housing for the full session. Alternately, students can opt to seek off-campus housing accommodations.
Do I need to be registered for summer classes to apply for SVA Summer Housing? If I register for summer classes and housing, and my classes get canceled, do I still have to pay for housing?
SVA Summer Housing for SVA students is open to students who are full-time matriculated at the college, but you do not need to take summer classes in order to stay in summer housing if you are full-time matriculated and cleared as a student. However, if you register for summer housing and summer courses, and your summer courses are canceled, you are responsible for the terms of the summer housing agreement. The housing agreement is separate from any commitments that you may plan for summer.

Switching Rooms/Buildings
I currently live in the 24th Street/23rd Street/Gramercy/Ludlow, but will be switching to another room for summer. When will I receive notice that my summer room is ready for check-in?
We ask all students to remain available and present during the first three weeks of May (May 5–May 22) to be ready for notification that their summer room is ready for check-in. Summer residents should be prepared to complete their move-over within 48-hours of notification that their room is ready for check-in.
I have already booked a plane home for May. What should I do?
When applying for summer, we ask that all residents be prepared and present to move-over between May 5–May 22. If you can not be present, you may have to move your items out of your current space because it will be used for summer and notify your RHD when you intend to check-in. In this case, please email the office in advance to resolve/notify of this conflict.
Why is the window of time so wide to receive notification of my move-over? Why can't I be given an exact date?
Where possible, the Residence Hall Director for the building where you will stay for summer will try to give you the earliest move-in date possible. However, there are many variables that are involved, including potential delays in checkout of the current occupant and getting the room cleaned and ready for you with our cleaning vendors. Because of this, the hall director can not provide an exact date in advance.
How will I receive notification that my summer move-over room is ready for check-in?
You will receive an email from the Residence Director of your summer building with the date and details of how to check in.
Will my summer room be the room I am assigned for the coming Fall semester?
At the 24th Street Residence, we have an SVA student consolidation policy since all rooms are shared spaces. We will consolidate SVA students on specific floors for the summer session. All students at 24th street should be prepared to move to a different assignment for the summer and then move to their Fall assignment within 24th Street during the third week of August. The only circumstance in which we can place students in their fall assignment at the 24th Street Residence is if two students are living together for the Fall and also apply for summer housing and request one another at 24th Street for the summer.
At the Ludlow Residence, we try to place you in your Fall assignment for the summer (if you are in a single room), but some circumstances may prevent that including the current occupant applying for summer and/or if you have submitted your summer housing application after the April 5th priority placement deadline. All students at Ludlow Residence, who are assigned to a different room for summer other than that Fall assignment, should be prepared to move to their Fall assignment within the first three weeks of August.
Do I need to pack my belongings by May 5, 2020 if I am moving over to another room?
All students who will be moving over to another assignment for the summer should have their belongings packed and room prepped in anticipation of their move.
