Labs
Our state-of-the-art labs contain:
- Apple Silicon Mac Studio desktop workstations with Eizo ColorEdge monitors, equipped with access to the Adobe Creative Suite and additional editing and programming applications.
- 2 Private video editing and post-production suites

Classrooms and Lecture Spaces
All classrooms are equipped with a dedicated teaching/display station to project large video and dynamic sound for classes and visiting guests. Classrooms have pushpin walls for artwork presentation and critique.
Our multi-functional Lecture Space/Screening Room comfortably accommodates 120 individuals and is outfitted with a Christie D13HD laser projector and Danley speakers.

- Grip cabinet with C-Stands, arms and knuckles, clamps, etc. plus additional light modifiers such as flags and frames.
- Complete control of environmental lighting with blackout curtains

Additional Student Resources
Students have free access to the Adobe Creative Cloud software suite as a current student with an active SVA MyID account.
In addition, with your SVA MyID and sva.edu email account, you will have access to all the features of G Suite Education, which includes unlimited Drive storage, Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Forms, etc. For a list of the apps available with your SVA MyID, and a guide to school-wide supported technologies, please see Student Guides.

Studio Spaces
We have several available private studio spaces for select students, and one additional studio space available for student checkout on a weekly basis for short term projects and installations. Private Studio spaces are awarded to qualified students through a yearly application process.

Visible Futures Lab
The Visible Futures Lab (VFL), located on the 7th floor of 132 W. 21st Street, is a creative lab and workshop open to all graduate students by request. VFL facilities include 3D printers, digital embroidery machines, laser cutters, workshop tools, and more.

Technology Requirements for Incoming Students
All students are required to enter the department with an Apple laptop with the latest Adobe software and a portable hard drive.
Laptops must have the following minimum specifications:
- Apple Silicon M1 or newer
- macOS v12.0 (Monterey) or later
- at least 16 GB of unified memory (32 GB recommended)
- at least 512 GB SSD (1 TB recommended)
- must be able to connect to the Internet
The department follows the system requirements for Adobe Premiere Pro which can be found at Adobe Help Center.
Students are also required to purchase the following:
- Portable external hard drive with storage of at least 1 TB - (A second external HD for back-ups is strongly recommended)
- At least 1 v90 grade SD card
The MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Department is a Macintosh-based studio program and cannot support PC platforms.
