Olive (Mengxia) Shi addresses the problematics of museums and galleries and the respective insularity of the art world by intentionally placing her ‘red square paintings’ onto urban city streets throughout New York City. She then photographs the work in situ and places this documentation into the gallery along with related ephemera and maps, reminiscent of early Russian constructivist impulses.
