Tao Wei works with various materials that relate to urban New York street culture, specifically detritus such as discarded cardboard from McDonalds, or soda cans or discarded garments. He crafts new roles for these materials to embody, as with his most recent series of voided-out garments that express perhaps the existential emptiness of its former wearer.
