People have always been concerned with the sublimation of the soul, but that concern has neglected the body that maintains life. In this endless cycle, the body and soul experience countless crises which eventually break the cocoon of our life, releasing a butterfly.
This series of illustrations is based on the short story, "The Circular Ruins" by Jorge Luis Borges. The main character in the original story is recreated as a butterfly man. The process of making cocoons and breaking out tells the story of this endless cycle. The technique I used is traditional hand-drawing with ink and colored pencils. I also restrained the use of color, which made the brightness of the orange the focal point in the work.
