Poor-Trace: Disguise, 2018–19
When I started collecting used dryer sheets, I was interested in their textile sense and smell. These small pieces of rectangular polyester sheets transfer their scent onto my clothes and leave as a blank, semi-transparent and soft material. The material is one extension of my physical body and dissolves in my daily activities. Therefore, I chose to use this material to mimic my clothes' shape yet in an unconventional way and preserve the original form of the used dryer sheets as much as possible to resemble the most mundane memories of my laundry activities.
Just Another Day of Laundry, 2019
Just Another Day of Laundry uses the diary format to document a year of laundry. I collected the used dryer sheets after each laundry time, and I sewed the red rectangle on the sheet to record the dates. This book holds the memory of how I learned and formed laundry habits from different cultural backgrounds. The absence of the content intended to leave room for viewers to breathe and think about their own laundry processes.
