While most galleries remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, SVA is still offering an exhibition of student self-portraits, called "Three Golden Rules," that can be viewed directly from the sidewalk in front of the SVA Flatiron Gallery's ground-floor windows, at 133/141 West 21st Street.

For students in BFA Fine Arts faculty member Brooke Larsen's freshman drawing class, the exhibition is about Larsen's three golden rules: motivation, curiosity and discipline. "First the students must find the motivation to find a unique mark or way of making marks that excites them, then the curiosity to figure out how to use it to represent visual information," he says. Finally, students must maintain "the discipline to work on it for an extended period without compromising anything." These large-scale works tackle unique drawing methods and a wide variety of artistic mediums, including nontraditional materials like moss and glitter.

Participants artists in the exhibition include Rebecca Ariz, Angelo Chen, Shijun Chen, Weimi Chen, Xinlin Cui, Grace Damico, Yuhang Ding, Marlene Ghuneim, Jiaqian Guo, Xueqi Huang, Yujing Huang, Zenglin Huang, Hasna Khan, Andrew Introna, Yuna Kim, Yeabin Lee, Jake Leyva, Junyu Li, Yinxi Liang, Nicole Lin, Yizhou Lu, Zelong Liu, Qianyun Luo, Benjamin Marino, Dianne Park, Jehieli Rodriguez, Brynn Scharte, Hyunbee Shin, Liwen Yang, Isabella Ybarra, Sunghyun Yoo, Yinghui Zhu, Sydney Weil, Karen Zhou, Confetti Zhang, Kejun Zhang, Yunxin Zhang, Yue Zhang, Yirui Zhao, Zifei Zhao and Chenhui Zheng. The exhibition will be on view until further notice.
