Coming up this week and presented by BFA Visual and Critical Studies is “Charles Traub: Skid Row,” an exhibition of work by MFA Photography, Video and Related Media Chair Charles Traub. On view at the SVA Flatiron Project Space from Thursday, September 21, through Thursday, October 26, the exhibition consists of large-scale portraits of denizens of the “Skid Row” neighborhoods of New York and Chicago in the 1970s, which poignantly capture the complex humanity of their subjects. This exhibition coincides with the recent publication of this body of Traub’s work by Lazy Dog Press; the Skid Row monograph includes an essay by BFA Visual and Critical Studies Chair Tom Huhn. (Incidentally, Traub has another new book out, Remembrances of Summers’ Past, published by Interlocutor Press, which celebrates beachgoing and the universal human love of the sun).
