Unprecedented times sometimes call for extraordinary events. In the spirit of something innovative and bold, for the first time ever in SVA’s history, the College is putting on an exhibition of work by admitted incoming students. “New Talent ’21” is an invitational exhibition of multidisciplinary artworks by newly admitted students, organized in coordination with SVA Admissions and curated by SVA Galleries. The exhibition will be on view from Tuesday, April 6, through Tuesday, May 4.
Exhibiting is an integral part of learning at SVA and the purpose of “New Talent ’21” is to introduce these aspiring artists to SVA’s long tradition of holding professional-quality exhibitions for its students. The virtual presentation will demonstrate the variety of talent students can expect to find among their SVA peers and the importance that the College places on showing their work.
Showcasing a wide range of talent across illustration, painting, digital art, photography and more, “New Talent ’21” displays the myriad fascinating ways young people are responding to the world right now, from social justice-inspired statement work to the effects of a year in isolation. As we approach this significantly more hopeful stage of the pandemic, these artists give us even more reason to believe the future is brighter.
Additionally, “New Talent ’21” is perfectly timed with SVA’s 2021 Accepted Students Day, which will take place virtually on Saturday, April 10, and offers accepted undergraduate students the opportunity to connect directly with the College’s faculty, staff and current students.
