Serendipity

The feeling of suffocating

Drowning underneath the water’s surface

Reaching my hand up

To grasp for something I could never touch

The light that shines above

No one is there to hold my hand

To keep me from sinking deeper

The warm sensation of the tired sun

Setting out to find sleep

Its eyes droop and waves goodbye

I wave goodbye with tear-filled eyes

Afraid I won’t be able to see this friend again

My feet move on their own

Running towards the falling ball of fire

Trying to chase the last bits of warmth

Before it completely disappears

Lost and dazed in a deserted place

The coolness of the air

Brings chills to my bones

I miss the warmth

I miss the source of that warmth

The sky is painted with darkness

Painted with the color of shadows

That familiar feeling creeping up again

The cold closing in

Light envelopes me

Balls of gas sprinkle across the pool of darkness

Fireflies dance

The wind creates music

The moon smiles sadly and asks

“Why are you so sad?”

It hugs me with a blanket of moonlight

That unusual euphoric feeling

Of finding a friend

Of coming across an epiphany

Maybe I’m not as alone as I thought.
