STUDENTS SHARE THEIR ARTWORK AT SVACE

July 10, 2017 by Michael Bilsborough

We are pleased to present textile art by SVACE student Sofia Santos. Sofia created this artwork in conjunction with the course, Illustration Portfolio with Elizabeth Sayles and Watercolor Painting with Denis Ponsot.

An illustration of a woman displaying her back, draped in chains bound with a lock at her lower back. She peeks over her shoulder as her left hand reaches behind to insert the key into the lock.

According to her statement, Sofia "initially started her career in advertising as a designer / art director and worked in several advertising agencies around the world. Apart from Lisbon, she lived in Madrid, Sydney and now, New York."

"Art and visual communication were always part of her life and a way to escape to a happy and safe place. Sofi started drawing more regularly when she moved to the United States. Her art can change from simple clean lines, to colourful and smudged but despite the look of the piece, she tries to evoke emotion and have a deeper meaning in her work."
