SVA Alumni Win Prestigious NYFA Fellowships

The New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) recently announced this year’s winners of their prestigious Artists’ Fellowship, and of the 98 selected from an applicant pool of 2,669, eight of them are SVA alumni. Supranav Dash (BFA 2013 Photography), Samuel James (BFA 1983 Photography), Takahiro Kaneyama (MFA 2001 Photography and Related Media), Dina Kantor (MFA 2007 Photography, Video and Related Media), Susannah Sayler (MFA 1999 Photography and Related Media), Pacifico Silano (MFA 2012 Photography, Video and Related Media), Sinan Tuncay (MFA 2013 Photography, Video and Related Media) and Shen Wei (MFA 2006 Photography, Video and Related Media) were all awarded for outstanding work in the Photography category. Each of them will receive an unrestricted cash grant of $7,000.

“This year’s Fellows range from 26 to 80 years in age, reflecting NYFA’s endeavor to support artists during all walks of life and encourage them in their creative careers to concentrate on what they do best: create art and inspire all of us in the process,” said NYFA Executive Director Michael L. Royce.

NYFA awarded a total of $647,000 this year to artists throughout New York State in the following disciplines: architecture/environmental structures/design, choreography, music/sound, photography, playwriting/screenwriting.
