SVA had a big presence this year at Annecy, the world's largest international animation film festival. Angie Wojak, director of Career Development at the College, moderated a panel on talent recruitment in animation, which featured guest speakers from Pixar, Walking the Dog, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and Escape Studios. The speakers covered everything from how to prepare a successful animation reel to how to network in the industry. Wojak also attended a Women in Animation networking breakfast, where she met several top executives from Walt Disney and DreamWorks.
SVA also had alumni presenting films (watch two of them here) throughout the festival and hosted several alumni dinners to celebrate the accomplishments. MFA Computer Art Chair Bruce Wands said, "We had another great year at Annecy. Our students were thrilled and received a lot of positive comments on their animations. The MFA Computer Art booth was busy with prospective students, studios interested in hiring our graduates and festival producers looking for student work to include in their shows. We spent time with several recruiters, including Deb Stone from Blue Sky Studios, Shelley Page from DreamWorks, and others. The Graduation Reel screenings provided us with a global perspective on what students are currently producing."
