The 2022 exhibition, “Enduring Heritage,” opening on Friday, September 16, marks the 11th year of a transatlantic partnership that SVA Executive Vice President Anthony P. Rhodes originated in an exchange of exhibitions with Dr. Jean-Marc Boulon, director of Valetudo. (The exhibition was last held in 2019, pre-pandemic, with the theme of “Art and Revelry.”) This year’s works were made by SVA alumni practicing within the disciplines of illustration, photography, animation, video and computer art, as well as by faculty members who have created work for SVA Subway Series posters. The key art for this year’s keepsake poster is by late MFA Illustration as Visual Essay chair Marshall Arisman from a subway poster commemorating SVA’s 40th anniversary in 1987. Taken together, the works exude a tenacious spirit that is fitting to this year’s theme while also celebrating more than a decade of inspiring creative collaboration.
