SVA Library Offers Streaming Access To Films, eBooks, Images and More

The library buildings may be closed, but the online collections are always open.

Did you know you can remotely access over 60 databases via the SVA Library? These databases provide countless online resources, including ebooks, films, comics, magazines, tutorials, articles and encyclopedias—so you can do research, browse art and design books, or watch great movies, no matter where you are.


Below, SVA's digital services librarian Phoebe Stein and west-side librarian Shea'la Finch highlight some of the SVA Library's many databases, based on what materials you might be seeking. Log in to access the databases from anywhere in the world using your SVA username and password when prompted. It is important to use the direct links provided below or via library.sva.edu, as navigating to these sites will not work. Looking for streaming video? 

Kanopy is our most popular streaming source, with over 600 titles streaming now. You can even get the Kanopy app on Apple TV. We also provide access to Electronic Arts IntermixArt & Architecture in VideoAcademic Video Online, among other resources, where you can find experimental video art, documentary and educational films, and more. 


Looking for magazines, comics, and newspapers? 

Flipster is a magazine app for reading complete digital versions of 38 magazines, including ApertureArt in AmericaComputer ArtsFast CompanyThe New YorkerWired, and others. We also subscribe directly to The New York TimesChronicle of Higher EducationVogueHarper's Bazaar, and the Underground and Independent Comics, Comix and Graphic Novels database. 


Looking for images? 

Artstor provides access to over two million images—spanning mediums, eras and cultures—sourced from museums, galleries, archives and other research institutions. Colourbox has hundreds of thousands of royalty-free stock images, including photographs, vector images, and videos for use in your projects. The SVA Image Library (MDID) is an image database of copyright-protected images for use in teaching and scholarship. 


Looking for eBooks? 

Ebook Central Academic Complete is a multidisciplinary collection of over 180,000 ebooks across academic subjects, including arts, humanities, social sciences, literature, education, health, medicine and technology. The ACLS Humanities Ebook Collection contains over 5,500 high-quality ebooks in the humanities and social sciences. Learn how to download ebooks, and where to find more here.


Looking for scholarly articles or encyclopedias? 

We provide access to numerous resources for scholarly articles. Highlights include Art & Architecture Source, which offers broad coverage of art topics, and JSTOR, which currently has over 150 journals focused on the arts and humanities. Grove Art is an online encyclopedia with entries written by art scholars.
