“‘I ❤ NY More Than Ever,’ Milton Glaser’s response to the attacks of 9/11 captured the mood of New York City in 2001, but SVA institution (and BFA 3D Design chair) Kevin O’Callaghan’s beautiful response a year later got at the city’s resilience in an entirely different way. It wouldn’t be an O’Callaghan piece without a great story behind it, one that includes him convincing a DUMBO resident to let him into his apartment so he could get the perfect view from his window. O’Callaghan’s designs often skew big, but in this subdued piece, he shows growth and renewal in the wake of destruction.”
