In this week’s edition of The Five, the SVA community are showing their deep connections to New York City, revolutionizing the cannabis industry, making waves in the world of photography, and helping veterans heal through art.

In a profile of artist and author Timothy Goodman (BFA 2007 Graphic Design) in amNY, his love for New York City is front and center. From his mural work at the Brooklyn P.S. 315 basketball court in partnership with former Brooklyn Nets player Kevin Durant, to his work for publications like The New York Times and The New Yorker, Goodman is endlessly inspired by the city he’s called home for 20 years. “Feeling the energy of the people, the energy of the city, the hustle, it really makes me want to always step up my game,” he says.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is partnering with alumnus David BenDavid’s accessories brand Sprayground on a new line of handbags to be sold at the museum’s gift shop for a limited time. With 17 different designs inspired by iconic works of art in the museum’s collection, including Van Gogh’s Wheat Field with Cypresses and Antonio Canova’s head of Medusa from Perseus with the Head of Medusa, the collection offers wearable keepsakes for art lovers. Bronx native BenDavid tells WWD, “Instead of focusing on one section of the museum, I chose all. All cultures are a part of this design collaboration.”
