The Coney Island Polar Bear Plunge

From from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Monday, January 1, thousands of people will gather at Coney Island Beach for the 121st annual Polar Bear Club New Year’s Day Plunge. Watch as the brave dive into icy waters, or—if you’re feeling adventurous—sign up to join in on the plunge yourself. There is no fee to participate; however, a minimum donation of $25 is strongly encouraged to help local nonprofit organizations. Coney Island Beach, Brooklyn.

NYRR Midnight Run

Kick off your New Year’s resolutions alongside hundreds of others in a four-mile race in Central Park hosted by New York Road Runners. The countdown begins at 11:59pm on Sunday, December 31, and continues into the new year. The race begins at 72nd Street Transverse near Bethesda Terrace, Central Park.

Three Kings Day Parade

The annual largest and longest-running Three Kings Day fete in the city returns this year—join camels, sheep, donkeys, colorful puppets, brightly dressed community leaders—posing as the Three Kings—and thousands of spectators for a festive day filled with live music and gift giveaways hosted by El Museo del Barrio.
