I work primarily with micron pens, using intricate line work to create detailed, cohesive compositions. Central to my practice is an exploration of the relationship between black and white, delving into their contrasts and harmonies. A significant influence on my work is the Classic of Mountains and Rivers, which has inspired me to reinterpret traditional imagery through a contemporary lens. By drawing from this ancient text, I aim to create art that not only reflects my personal vision but also reimagines and transforms these cultural narratives, reflecting their relevance in today’s global context. My practice is further informed by a deep connection to nature, particularly the cycles of decay and renewal. I am particularly fascinated by the concept of remains and their role in sustaining new life. For example, I explore how the bones of whales become the foundation for vibrant marine ecosystems, symbolizing transformation and the continuity of life. This theme also resonates with broader social issues such as environmental preservation and the fragility of life itself. Through my work, I hope to engage audiences in a conversation about our relationship with the natural world, prompting reflection on environmental and existential concerns. Sometimes I create by referencing the textures within plant cells. Over time, these elements come together and drift apart, mirroring natural cycles of connection and separation. By magnifying these textures, I aim to evoke a sense of resonance, inviting viewers to contemplate the often-overlooked microcosmic worlds that exist within nature.
