Happy Diwali! Shreya Gupta (MFA 2017 Illustration as Visual Essay) shared yesterday, on the first day of the celebratory festival, that her new picture book, She Sang for India: How M.S. Subbulakshmi Used Her Voice for Change, will be out next month. The book tells the story of M.S. Subbulakshmi, a famous Carnatic singer who gained recognition worldwide and was invited by the United Nations to perform during a time when women were not allowed to sing in public in India. She sang for peace and unity and was a trailblazer.
