Wilde Lab

The Wilde Lab is a hub of emerging technologies specifically created to offer BFA Design and BFA Advertising students an outlet to transform their digital ideas into physical reality.
The lab, named in honor of Chair Emeritus Richard Wilde, offers students a hands-on approach to design and discovery while emphasizing current Chair Gail Anderson’s core tenets: play, experimentation, and ideation.

FAQs
Who can use the Wilde Lab?
The Wilde Lab is open for use by all BFA Design and BFA Advertising students who are sophomores and above. If you do not fit into that category but would like to use the lab, please email your request to wildelab@sva.edu.
How does the lab work?
Students submit their project file via an online form; once submitted, the files will go into a Lab production queue.
A staff member from the lab will contact the respective parties if there is an issue with production. You can check the status of your project by visiting the Lab during walk-in hours.
Do I need to pay to use the Lab?
Use of the Lab is free, however we charge the wholesale price for some of our materials so we can replenish our stock. You are also welcome to bring in your own materials.
Can I use my Papercut card to pay for material in the lab?
Unfortunately, the Papercut is a different system from the DIC. Payments can be made with a credit card or via a phone app.
What do I do if I need my project immediately?
We do everything we can to produce your work in a timely manner, however we cannot skip other projects in the queue, and some of the processes can take time. Our average turnaround is 2–3 days. Please plan ahead of time for end-of-semester projects, as the Lab may be busier during peak times.
I messed up my file, can I remake my project?
Once a file is submitted to the Lab, it is considered print ready. We do not proof-read your material. Please check all of your files before submitting. If you need to reprint, you will resubmit your files and go back into the queue. You will also need to pay for any materials used.
I am unhappy with the quality of my project, what should I do?
Please come into the Lab and speak with a staff member. We will work with you to help create the best product possible.
I don’t know the best process for making my prototype, what do I do?
Please come into the Lab and speak with a staff member, and we can help advise you to realize your project.
What can I cut or etch on the laser?
The laser can cut material up to ½" thick and can etch onto objects 6" thick. You can use acrylic, wood, paper, cardboard, leather, fabric, and glass. The Laser can not cut polycarbonate, PVC, sintra or foam board.
What material can I UV print on?
Anything that is flat that can fit within an A3 paper space that is less than 6" thick can be attempted on the printer. We can also print on perfectly cylindrical objects.
