Ths fall marks the 75th anniversary of the School of Visual Arts—a significant milestone in the institution’s history and a testament to the vision of founders Silas H. Rhodes and Burne Hogarth, who established the College as the Cartoonists & Illustrators School in 1947.
Accordingly, the latest issue of SVA’s magazine, the Visual Arts Journal—set to arrive on campus and in mailboxes later next week—commemorates the occasion with a variety of anniversary-themed content, along with its usual selection of features and news from the SVA community. Select content from the fall/winter 2022 Journal will appear on sva.edu in the weeks and months ahead, and a complete digital edition is available now on Issuu, where visitors can read, share or download the magazine as a free PDF.

Highlights of the fall/winter 2022 Journal include:
- an SVA “birthday” cake created by baker Shannie C. Mitrovich (BFA 2004 Graphic Design);
- previously unpublished “page drawings” by the late Sol LeWitt (1954 Illustration);
- an overview of SVA’s groundbreaking student and guest-artist exhibitions;
- a brief history of the School of Visual Arts;
- nine current and former SVA chairs and faculty on the past, present and future of the ever-growing discipline of design;
- tributes to the late MFA Illustration as Visual Essay founder and chair Marshall Arisman and MFA Computer Arts Chair Emeritus Bruce Wands.
