Future Memories

A message from Jane Nuzzo, director of SVA Alumni Affairs and Development

The photo above, courtesy of the SVA Archives, was taken by Alice Beck-Odette, former faculty member and longtime chair of BFA Photography, about 55 years ago. The students’ names, the class they had gathered for, their exact location—all of these details have been lost to time. Except maybe for the people who were there. (If you happen to be one of them—or can identify anyone who is—please email .)

So much of college is about campus life—the friendships or partnerships we make, the moments of personal, creative or intellectual breakthrough. One of the pleasures of my work is hearing about SVA from back in the day, and one of my greatest hopes for the coming months is that students can begin making these lifelong memories and connections in person again.

Many of us have experienced hardship and loss this past year. As ever, our shared success depends on our mutual engagement and support. We continue to offer all SVA alumni a range of benefits, such as lifelong access to your SVA email and Google Workspace account, reduced Continuing Education tuition, discounts on SVA Campus Store technology and insurance options. Career Development has expanded their virtual event schedule and offers remote one-on-one advising for students and recent graduates, as well as the online job board for all students and alumni. We celebrate your work in our e-newsletter, social media and the Visual Arts Journal; to share news or to make sure your contact information is up to date, email us. And we look forward to the time when we can resume our in-person receptions and other events.

If you haven’t already, please consider joining or forming an alumni affinity association, so that everyone in our diverse, growing community can deepen their affiliation with SVA and one another through their shared interests.

Last, my heartfelt thanks goes out to all who have supported the SVA Alumni Society’s scholarship and award programs, including the Emergency Assistance Fund, which launched last spring. Donations can be made here; be assured that 100% of your contribution will go directly to assisting current students—our future alumni. ❈
