Each year, SVA Student Health and Counseling Services and Student Affairs host the annual HOPE Art Competition, a call for posters that encourage everyone at SVA to make use of mental-health services and life-saving tools. The competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students and generates a diverse set of submissions that represents the supportive and caring community at the College. In previous years, themes have included “Together, We Can Find HOPE” (2023), “Healing as a Community” (2021), uplifting Mr. Rogers quotes (2020) and a celebration of The Samaritans organization (2018) and their message of helping those in need.
This year’s theme, “Better Together. Resilient Together,” was about building support through community.Out of the 48 students who submitted artwork this year, 12 finalists were selected for the Grand Prize and Fan Favorite categories, with the winners announced at last week’s reception for the exhibition. Congratulations to the Fan Favorite winner, Elle Liu (BFA Illustration) for Rest Day and Grand Prize winner, Gina Lew (BFA Illustration) for Moonfish Loves You. The finalists’ prizes were sponsored by the SVA Campus Store.
“Better Together. Resilient Together.” is on view now through Wednesday, February 21, at the SVA Flatiron Windows, 133/141 West 21st Street, and visible from the sidewalk. Take a look at some of the competition finalists and winners below.
