Letter from the President
Welcome to the Visual Arts Journal’s new online home at sva.edu.
Over the last year the School of Visual Arts has adjusted and reimagined its operations in countless ways, large and small, so that we could continue offering a meaningful arts education amid a ravaging pandemic. These adaptations were born of necessity, often in trying circumstances, and we will be glad to leave many of them behind once it is safe and prudent to do so. Thankfully, with our continued collective effort, that time should soon be here.
For the students and professionals who are our community, however, these past months have also been a time of discovery, in which we have realized new and valuable ways of learning, creating and communicating. As we look to exit this long painful chapter, I hope that we can bring with us that same spirit of openness and experimentation, and that it will inform and direct our work for a better future.
I hope you enjoy this edition of the Visual Arts Journal.
David Rhodes
President, School of Visual Arts

Note from the Editors
For this edition of the Visual Arts Journal, the first to exist entirely online, we aim to bring you the same quality and range of content that you would find in the printed magazine, while making the most of the opportunity to incorporate some of the unique tools of a digital publication—video, links, pop-ups, and the like.
Whether this issue is a one-off experiment or the beginning of a new phase for the magazine, we hope that this may serve as a richer online presence for the Journal. We hope you enjoy it and we look forward to hearing from you. ✴︎
